He was so kind to pass on to me his Lime Squeezer -Specially designed, cast squeezer, perfect for extracting fresh lime juice into any cocktail or beverage. I can hardly wait for summer to mix up some refreshing cocktails for my friends. While I was in Las Vegas I had the pleasure to meet Mary Ann Reilly too with Dress the Drink- what a great way to top of a cocktail!! No naked cocktails!!! Cheers Everyone- enjoy your next event!

This last Tuesday I had the pleasure of meeting Tony at the Avalon Lodge. A place that is only a hop skips away from Stateline, NV Casino’s. (Two blocks- to be exact!) As you drive down Manzanita Street off of Stateline it is like traveling down in a time capsule of nostalgia mom & pop’s motels. But right there is the Diamond in the rough – A boutique style motel of only 20 rooms that are refurbished to fit the style of the new millennium.

As you glide down the aisle way to your future husband you want to take his breath away with your radiant glow!

Here are some tips to achieve a relaxing wedding day.

When planning out hair and make-up time be sure to ask do the beauty consultants travel?

Ask how long it will take for each person and the cost?

Be sure to have all of the money together the night before because you will not have time the day of wedding.

Be sure to ask how many beauty consultants will be at the location?

Bride should go first. Touch-up will be finalized once in dress. Get done so you can relax!

After you are done drink plenty of water. Light lunch. No gassy foods. No onions or garlic.

Enjoy champagne but not too much!

Brush your teeth. – Keep breath mints handy. Put on lip gloss.

Bridesmaid and Parents should be ready before bride.

Photographer comes to room. Takes picture of you getting ready.

Finalize make-up. – Touch -ups

Keep a make-up bag handy for the day or have the beauty consultant for the wedding day!

History of the Wedding March dates as far back as the mid-nineteenth century. Music was generally not permitted at weddings. – How did this tradition get started?

On January 25, 1858 the wedding of Victoria, Princess Royal, daughter of Queen Victoria, and future German Emperor Frederick III at the Chapel Royal, St. James Palace, London were the first to use these two melodies…

Richard Wagner’s opera known as Lohengren harbors a tune that is familiar to almost everyone who has attended a wedding ceremony as “Here Comes the Bride”. Traditionally for the processional.

Felix Mendelssohn’s composed for titled A Midsummer Night’s Dream that is used for the recessional.

Just imagine 154 years and this tradition is still being used with many years to come.

Wedding Dresses For as Little as $50 – $600

Once a Year Only!

For one day only, just 5 hours… at the Premier Bride Showcase, January 8, 2012 from 11- 4pm.

Where do the gowns come from?

We work with a LOT of designers. The dresses are over-runs, floor models, new, last season designs and dresses with very minor need of repair (a loose loop, loose beading or discolored beads, a smudge that just needs spot cleaning, etc.)

Gowns from $50-$249 are those that are in need of very minor repair or have a smudge on it. They may have been worn in a photo shoot or rented previously.

Gowns from $250-$600 are brand new dresses that we have negotiated with our favorite designers.

Most all of the gowns are new. Some gowns may have been worn in a photo shoot or rented for an event.

Can I Come on Another Day?

No. This is an annual event that wipes the racks clean without one gown remaining. The event is hosted at the Premier Bride Showcase located at Reno-Sparks Convention Center and is not a retail store. This is a one-day sale, much like what many of you have seen on TV in New York, Boston, Chicago and other cities at the famous Filene’s Running of the Brides, where brides line up and scramble for a gown. Held once a year, this will be the only day to arrive, scramble, and leave with a gown!

Can I try the gowns on?

Of course, but there are no dressing rooms and there is no time to go back and forth if there were a dressing room if you want to find the dress you are looking for. It is a mad house and brides dress in the shopping aisles, so wear a body suit, biker shorts and tank, or something that you can try dresses on while wearing underneath.

What if I need to return the gown?

The dresses are non-returnable. This is an as-is sale and no fittings, or alterations are available. We will have information on hand about local seamstresses, qualified to provide alterations if you need it, but the sale of the items are final.

Is there an additional cost to enter the sale?

Entry into the Reno Premier Bride Showcase entitles you to enter the Grab the Gown event complimentary. Tickets for the bridal show can be purchased at the door.

Tips For Success
(from Filene’s Running of the Brides website)

Since this may be something new to you, following are some tips for success from the Filene’s Web site and comments made by Lei Lydle of Atlanta Bridal:

Get there early or get there late.
Evidently, there is a better selection early but less frenzy later.
Leave all men at home, but do bring female help.
I imagine it could be strange for men since there will be hundreds of women stripping down right there in the store…
Identify your team.
This is quite funny but I imagine it is helpful. The Filene’s Web site suggests you and your “team” wear matching colors, hats, etc. (something that will help you find each other in a crowd…)
What to wear:
Leotard or sports bra and bike shorts to try on dresses anywhere, sneakers of comfortable shoes…
Leave your handbags at home.
Carry your belongings in a fanny pack or have a friend carry them.
Think creatively.
Since these dresses are so inexpensive, it may be worth the cost of alterations if the gown you love doesn’t fit perfectly.
Be open-minded.
Certain dresses look best on certain bodies. Don’t pass up a dress just because it isn’t what you had in mind – it may look awesome on you!
Be courteous.
This is just common sense. Everyone is there for the same thing – to find the perfect dress. If you are nice and help someone out they will be nice and help you – I hope!
Be fair.
Again, everyone is there for the same thing. So give up your dresses as quickly as possible so that other brides have a chance to try them on.
Have fun!
Hopefully you will find the dress of your dreams but if not, you will probably always remember your trip to Filene’s.

Here is Lei Lydle’s experience at Filene’s Basement Bridal Sale…

My Experience at the Sale

Well I got up early to go check out the sale this morning. When I arrived at 7:30, hundreds of women were lined up outside of each entrance to the Filene’s store here in Atlanta. Most that I asked said that they started arriving at 6:00 in the morning but some were there earlier and a few women started camping out the day before!

In addition to the groups of anxious women, there were also news cameras and vans, radio station personalities, bridal magazine reps, and security personnel all over the place. I really couldn’t believe all of the media attention surrounding this sale!

Anyway, although I saw some women that appeared to be there alone, most were in groups and many chose to wear novelty head bands so they could find each other once inside the store.

At about 5 minutes before opening, the security personnel begin unlocking the doors. At that point, some of the women who were further back in the line started to come to the front. I was very surprised when the women closer to the front of the line yelled “No” almost in unison as is if it were planned.

I even witnessed a verbal argument between a mother-of-the-bride and an unrelated young woman. The mother had arrived early and had been waiting at the front of the line all morning. But as the 8am hour drew near, younger girls started inching toward the front. This particular young woman attempted breaking in front of this mother and a verbal argument ensued. I really wish I would have had my video camera!

So one or two minutes after that, a gentlemen that works at Filene’s (possibly the manager) came out and addressed the crowd. He told the women not to run but to walk. He said that there were over 1000 dresses inside so there were definitely enough dresses for everyone to get a dress. Then he walked back inside and they opened the doors….

Evidently no one listened to the store manager’s announcement because as soon as those doors opened the girls were off and running.

Proceeds to benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Lake Tahoe/Reno- Private Estate Weddings

I had lightly mentioned about picking the perfect setting for the big day at a private estate. Here are some tips on picking “The” location.
Before booking your dream location…

1. Do you need a permit from the county for the wedding location?

2. Electricity- Make sure it can handle the lights, band/dj, and catering staff equipment. Just because you have lots of plugs doesn’t mean you have plenty of electric.

3. Parking- Adequate parking or will you need to hire shuttle service? Think about drop off points and turn around space for shuttle.

4. Space for catering staff to stage their equipment and store delivery. Will the back yard accommodate dance floor (is the ground flat enough) and dining tables, ceremony area? Will a tent fit if the weather forecast is snow or rain?
